Why the ‘whole’ plant matters

Botana's goal is to offer a unique experience with superior organic skincare and nutrition products. We ventured to Paonia, Colorado, to focus on sustainable growing methods while producing nutrient dense plants of the highest caliber. The high desert microclimate of the North Fork Valley and the valley's commitment to organics have continually produced some of the best tasting fruits in America. We chose this area to grow the best specialized hemp genetics possible, knowing they would be enhanced by the elevation and wine region climate.

We always harvest by hand and employ whole plant extraction methods, striving to provide the most bio-availability and largest terpene profile possible, utilizing a whole plant extract with minerals as scientifically studied to having the most health benefits. There is a deficiency of cannabinoids, terpenes, and minerals in the modern diet, so we strive to keep all these micronutrients present in our products utilizing advanced growing and extracting techniques.

At our Farm, we work with no-till methods, building soil with compost teas, microbial inoculants, and companion planting. We utilize microscopes to see what our soil is missing in order to complete the soil food web. For instance, our soil was bacterially dominated and highly damaged from chemical fertilizers, so we had to add certain microorganisms to reestablish a soil food web, chemical fertilizers kill the soil rapidly, leading to runoff and loss of topsoil. The salts from these chemical fertilizers dry out and kill al the the soil microorganisms releasing carbon and leading directly to erosion.

We aim to build the soil food web and regenerate nutrient deficient soil, to give the plant the ability to uptake all the micronutrients and minerals available. Unless an active soil food is present, you will not be able to access all the minerals in your soil and have a much less nutritious plant. The presence or lack of minerals in plants has been directly correlated to the use of chemical fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, and tilling. We have teamed up with the most innovative technicians in our field, from breeders, chemists, soil scientists, bringing you the best varieties of industrial hemp genetics, while utilizing the best techniques to preserve these plants in product form. We are consistently developing enhanced techniques while working with a true soil food web.

The methods we utilize for our tinctures have been developed for millennia starting more than 7,000 years ago, highly refined by Egyptians, and finally coined by Paracelsus, in the 16th century as Spagyrics'. This technique is unique to tincture making as the tincture is recombined with the minerals of the plant. We know the importance of herbal extraction techniques, soil health, and genetics. This is why we work closely with breeding and refining our soil under microscope, while utilizing extensive lab testing of our products. The final result is a truly unique nutrition experience.

More information from Project CBD:

Most animal studies with cannabidiol utilize synthetic, single-molecule CBD produced by biochemical laboratories. In contrast, whole plant extractions typically include CBD, THC, and several hundred trace compounds. Many of these compounds interact synergistically to create what scientists refer to as an “entourage effect” that magnifies the therapeutic benefits of the plant’s individual components—so that the therapeutic impact of the whole plant is much greater than the sum of its parts.

Now I know why I love Botana’s products! The information about the growing and processing is fascinating. I love being privvy the science behind the growing and tincture processes. Botana’s CBD oil has been a part of my nighttime ritual for over a year. I feel rested and alert, and now more informed when I recommend Botana to my friends.
